RABIAA EL WASS - BAALBECK, LEBANON |
Rabiaa Al Wass lives in Baalbeck in the Bekaa region of Lebanon.
She started her business several years ago by selling women's clothes door-to-door. A year on, her business
flourished and a close friend advised her to open a store to attract a bigger clientele. In 2003, with the help of
a loan of $1,500 from Ameen she managed to open her own store near her neighborhood. Since then Rabiaa has borrowed
twice from Ameen and has expanded her line of clothing to propose a wider choice to her customers. Unfortunately
during the war of July 06 her store got severely damaged and could not be reopened. Persistent on continuing her
business, she called the Ameen representative and applied for a new loan in November 2006. With the newly granted
amount she purchased new stock and rented a new shop near the old souk of Baalbeck. Today she
sells baby clothes, women's clothes along with accessories. Her inventory comes from: Beirut,
Syria and China. Along with the shop, Rabiaa also sells fresh homemade products that she sends to Beirut on a
recurrent basis. |
